Kyron Sullivan wins South Wales Open
European Tour professional Kyron Sullivan (vale-hotel.com) won the South Wales Open at Southerndown today (Mon 14th July), with a 2 under par round of 68 on the Ogmore by Sea course.
Sullivan started well and was three shots clear after ten holes, when he stood at 4 under par, but two dropped shots on the back nine brought him closer to the rest of the field. He eventually picked up a cheque for £1,000, the South Wales Open trophy and 100 Order of Merit points.
Ryan Thomas (Aberdare) was the closest challenger to the eventual winner, and at one stage stood at -1 after 16 holes, but faded to a final level par score of 70. Thomas collected a cheque for £350, and 90 Order of Merit points.
At one over par, and tied in 3rd place were Adam Constable (Cardiff) and European Tour professional, Stuart Manley (Horizon Sports) who both shot 71. They each earn £150 and 75 Order of Merit points.
Leading amateur was Matthew Gill (Wenvoe Castle) on +2 (72), who won a free entry voucher to the next event.
Cardiff’s Adam Constable now leads the Order of Merit, having finished 3rd (Pembrokeshire Open), 1st (South West Wales Open) and now 3rd in the latest event, the South Wales Open. Ashburnham’s Martin Stimson moves into second place.
The next event is the South East Wales Open at St Mary's Golf Hotel on Monday 28th & Tuesday 29th July. Entry is £149 for professionals and £99 for amateurs (scratch handicap or better). Tee times are from 9am to 12noon
